Glenswilly GAA notes for Tuesday, February 2nd.
Dinner dance a huge success
A super crowd turned out for the club’s annual dinner dance at the Station House Hotel in Letterkenny at the weekend.
After a terrific year on and off the field for the club, pride of place went to the club’s senior reserve team who won the county championship.
But there were many other awards on the night which reminded those present of the great spirit that exists within the club.
Chairman Peter McConnell welcomed all to the evening and said that when it came to help, there was no greater community than the people of Glenswilly to offer their services.
A special picture presentation was made to the Glackin family whose father, and club stalwart, Finbar Glackin, passed away during the year.
It was a poignant reminder of the great people who have helped to put the foundations in place as the club goes forward with a purpose of strength.
Thanks was also paid to the Station House Hotel who put on a fine meal and to The Cufflinks who had the young (and the not so young!) dancing away until the small hours.
The following is a list of those who were honoured on the night:
Senior player of the Year: Darren McGinley
Senior reserve player of the Year: Patrick McFadden
Thirds player of the Year: Michael McDaid
Ladies player of the Year: Marie Boyle
Young ladies player of the Year: Niamh Gallagher
Young men’s player of the Year: Caoimhin Marley
Club person of the Year: Paul Lapsley
Appreciation award: Hugh McClafferty
Scor thank you
The club would like to thank anyone who help in any way with the hosting of the Scor Sinsear County Final on Friday night last.Would all the help it would not have been possible to host what was a hugely successful night. The club was delighted that both our acts were also successful and look forward to an Ulster semi-final in Glenullin on Saturday, February 13th. Well done to all.

The club’s registration night will take place on Saturday, February 6th between 7pm and 9pm. The price of registration is €15 per juvenile (18 and under), while a family of four children and upwards will be a total of €50. Adult membership is €40. There is no family membership. An adult membership plus a yearly lotto will costs €70 while a yearly lotto costs €50. On the night Garda vetting forms will also be made available. Any adults who comes into contact with children bet that in training or at games MUST be Garda vetted.
Congrats!
Congratulations to Blathnait Gallagher and Imogen Hards who lined out for the Donegal Championship U14 ladies team against Mayo in a friendly at the weekend. Both girls had great games in their county colours and a bright future is promised. Well done girls.
Missing club property
It has come to the club’s attention that a number of chairs are missing from the hall. If anyone has these chairs or may know of their whereabouts, can they please contact any member of the Hall Committee of simply have them returned. Indeed if anybody has accidentally come across any club property, can they please arrange to return it to the clubhouse.
Tea night – change of date!
The date of the Tea Night, organised by the Glenswilly GAA Ladies Board, has changed.
The tea will now take place a week earlier – on Friday, March 4th in the clubhouse.
But hosts and hostesses are still needed!
Each table will seat approximately 8 – 10 people.
The host/hostess will provide everything for the table – food, crockery, cutlery and most importantly – the guests!
An envelope is provided for each guest to make a donation towards club funds.
This is a novel idea undertaken by the ladies and support from all club members is appreciated.
If you are willing to take a table or perhaps can help in any other way, please contact Bernie Lapsley on 086 3638204.
Lotto
The winner of last week’s lotto was Anne O’Donnell from Glendowan, Churchill who matched three numbers. The winning numbers were 7,15,19 and 23.Members are reminded that the lottos are available in most locals outlets everyday. If anyone overseas wants to take out a yearly lotto then please contact PRO Stephen Maguire at stephenwmaguire@gmail.com and he will put you in touch with the lotto committee.
Bingo
The bingo continues each Wednesday night in the clubhouse starting at 9pm. Patrons are advised to get along early.
Keep fit and Couch to 5K
A number of keep fit classes (for men and women!) are now operating in the clubhouse throughout the week. The adult keep-fit class takes place on Monday nights at 7pm. The juvenile (aged 7 and over) takes place each Tuesday night from 7pm and the Couch to 5K takes place on Wednesday nights, also from 7pm. All classes are taken under the watchful eyes of Martin O’Donnell and Jimmy Carolyn.
