DONEGAL GAA SERVED WITH ARBITRATION REQUEST OVER YOUNG PLAYERS ELIGIBILITY

Donegal-GAA-CrestDonegal GAA has been served with an arbitration request from two clubs following last December’s controversial county convention.

The GAA’s powerful Disputes Resolution Authority has been asked by the Killybegs and Burt clubs to investigate procedures followed at the county convention.

The clubs claim that procedures used to adopt new rules governing playing eligibility for youngsters under the so-called First Club of Registration, weren’t properly followed.

A previous appeal by the clubs to the Ulster Council failed, and the DRA is effectively a ‘court of last resort’.

Donegal clubs currently adopt a ‘nod and wink’ attitude to residency requirements for young players’ registrations.

But under the rule passed at convention youngsters joining the GAA for the first time will only be allowed to play for the club in the parish in which they live.
