AN GRIANAN THEATRE TO HOST 1916 COMMEMORATIVE CONCERT

FEATURES: The Donegal 1916 Commemorative Committee, who include amongst its membership and patrons the author Helen Meehan, artist Kevin Sharkey and Mairead Ní Mhaonaigh from Altan has announced details of a celebration and remembrance concert to mark the beginning of their 2016 centenary events. 

Committee spokesperson, Jack Britton, said; “We are extremely excited to announce details of our 1916 concert which will take place in An Grianan Theatre on Saturday, 6th February at 8pm.

“The concert will detail Irish History through the eyes of two young Irish volunteers, celebrate our culture through dance, music, poetry and pageantry and will engage and excite the audience throughout.

“The leaders of 1916 rising were cultural activists, poets, educationalists and feminists, all of which we hope to celebrate on the night.

“Maírín de Buitléir, of TG4’s Ros na Rún, will join Antoin de Blárach (from The Shenanigans) as MCs on the night.”

They will be joined by a group of traditional Irish Dancers, various musicians, and other performers.

Committee member and concert organiser Fergus MacAoidh, said; “I would invite everyone in Donegal, and further afield, with an interest in Ireland’s heritage, to come along on join us in a fantastic night.

“Tickets, priced €10 are available from An Grianan and are selling out fast.”
