OPINION POLL: WHO WILL DONEGAL ELECTORATE VOTE FOR IN GENERAL ELECTION 2016

ballot boxGENERAL ELECTION: February 26th, that’s the date when the Donegal electorate will have the opportunity to decide who they want to see represent them in Dáil Éireann.

So who will the Donegal electorate choose to vote for?

Can Fine Gael hold onto power and continue to lead the country – or will their persistence with Irish Water Tax lead to their downfall?

Can Fianna Fáil return to power after losing their grip following a disastrous General Election in 2011 –  or do the majority of the electorate still hold them to account for the economic meltdown?

Sinn Féin’s popularity continues to rise, but could they form a majority government on their own?

Labour look a spent force, while support for the Independents has grown considerably over the last five years.

In Donegal, Fianna Fáil have put forward Charlie McConalogue, who is aiming to hold onto his seat, and political stalwart Pat ‘The Cope’ Gallagher.

Fine Gael hope Joe McHugh retains his seat, while Paddy Harte has thrown his hat into the political arena.

Sinn Féin have two sitting TD’s in Pearse Doherty and Padraig Mac Lochlainn and will be hopeful they’re both returned to the Dáil.

Newcomer Gary Doherty is also running for Sinn Féin and will be confident of causing an upset.

Thomas Pringle will face a fight to hold on to his seat, while Frank McBrearty Jnr has a huge number of supporters all over Donegal – and will be confident he can win a seat.

Dessie Shiels, Ian McGarvey, Niamh Kennedy are the other Independents hoping to get elected, while Paula Flanagan is in the running on behalf of The Green Party.

Click on our poll below and decide on who you think will win the five seats up for grabs.
