rory gallagherDonegal made it two leagues wins from two outings as they brushed aside a disappointing Cork side at Ballyshannon this afternoon.

After overcoming Down in Newry last weekend, Rory Gallagher’s side once again put their shoulder to the wheel at an overcast Fr Tierney Park.

Donegal rushed into a three point lead after just 11 minutes which included a breathless 50 metre kick from Michael Murphy.

Marty O’Reilly added to Cork’s woes a minute later when he found the net and after just 14 minutes Donegal were ahead don a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-0.

Donal Hodnett pulled a goal back for Cork and another three points dragged Cork back into just a point of Donegal on 21 minutes.

However, a succession of points from Donegal saw the home side go in at the break with a coming six point lead with a scoreline of 1-9 to 1-3.

Further points from Odhrán MacNiallais, Frank Glynn and Marty O’Reilly pushed Donegal further ahead in the second half.

And when Odhrán MacNiallais skipped past the Cork defence to snatch another goal in the 51st minute, Donegal netted a ten point advantage.

By that stage Donegal were already thinking of a hot shower and their five day training camp in Tenerife next week.

Cork did hit a bit of a positive spell but that only started after 39 minutes of their last score to make it 2-13 to 1-4.

The Rebels added another three points after that but Donegal could have added to their misery only to see Patrick McBrearty’s effort come crashing back of the crossbar as the game finished 2-14 to 1-7.

Rory Gallagher will be delighted with his side’s high-scoring in both open ing games of this league campaign but he can not judge his side against a Cork side who were not at the races today.
