Minister of State Joe McHugh T.D., has announced that he has sanctioned a grant of €15,000 for Donegal County Council to enable them to develop a walk/cycle path along part of the old railroad from Burtonport to Termon.

Focusing on the Falcarragh to Termon section, where other areas of the greenway have already been completed to date.

Announcing the grant, Minister McHugh said that he is very pleased to be in a position to assist with this development.

McHugh said, “This greenway will undoubtedly attract thousands of tourists to the Gaeltacht, and the surrounding areas.

“I’m delighted that this greenway will influence Donegal County Council’s Language Plan, particularly for the Gaeltacht areas, which is a great opportunity in enhancing the county’s economy.

“I have met with the various groups involved in the Greenways project on numerous occasions over the last few years, and I must commend the entire community effort on the ground in this project.

“I understand there is an application in through INTERREG also, which Donegal County Council have been working on with the various groups, and I believe there is the potential for this greenway to become one of the best in the world.”
