POLITICS: Donegal Sinn Féin TD, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has said that recent comments by Dr Peter O’Rourke have laid bare the disaster of Fine Gael policy.

Deputy Mac Lochlainn said that Leo Varadkar is keener to grab headlines rather than resolving the crisis in Letterkenny University Hospital.
Deputy Mac Lochlainn told Donegal Daily, ““I commend the stance made by Dr Peter O’Rourke.

“He is acting in the interests of the people of this county and he deserves the support of all public representatives in Donegal.

“Clearly the Fine Gael policies being pursued and enforced by Leo Varadkar are having a detrimental effect on our health system. People are suffering as a result.

“I would now call on Minister Varadkar and local Fine Gael candidates in Donegal to listen to the medical experts, and take the necessary steps to resolve this crisis.

“Sinn Féin has published comprehensive proposals to address the problems in our health system.

“Rather than giving tax breaks to the wealthiest people in society we would invest an additional €3.3billion in health and recruit almost 7000 doctors, nurses and other medical staff.

“We need greater investment in our health service. We need greater support for nurses and medical staff. Enough is enough. We deserve better.”
