DONEGAL DAILY has been running flash online polls ahead of the General Election.

They are completely unscientific; and provide a mere snapshot of public opinion.

However, for the second week running Independent candidate Dessie Shiels has once again topped our poll.

He’s followed by all three Sinn Féin candidates and fellow Independent candidate Tim Jackson.

Gary Doherty and Padraig Mac Lochlainn failed to make the top five last week, but have polled significantly better this week.

Pearse Doherty, Dessie Shiels and Tim Jackson have all featured in the top five in both weeks.

Fianna Fáil polled poorly this time around, while Fine Gael also polled miserably.

Thomas Pringle again failed to make impact in the poll.

Again, we stress it’s just a flash poll, and it provides a mere snapshot of public opinion.

In total 4,429 voted and the vote breakdown for the top five candidates were as follows:

  • Dessie Shiels 21% (928)
  • Pearse Doherty 16% (692)
  • Gary Doherty 13% (572)
  • Tim Jackson 12% (545)
  • Padraig Mac Lochlainn 12% (517)
