Donegal Youth Council and Donegal Youth Service World Wide Voices group have partnered up to host a “Lets Talk” Pre-Election event in the LYIT Lecture Theatre 1101 in Letterkenny next Thursday 18th February.
There is an open invite to all candidates running for the General Election in Donegal on 26th February to come along to hear and discuss directly from young people and some other youth groups what they feel are the big issues for young people in the county going into the next 5 years. A number of candidates have already confirmed their attendance.
The event is being funded by the Community Foundation for Ireland through the partnership “Breaking Through” project between Donegal Youth Council and World Wide Voices.
The Donegal Youth Council is a group of 36 young people aged 12-18 years, who identify issues and promote projects to improve the lives of young people in Donegal. The Donegal Youth Service World Wide Voices group is a youth project committed to building an equal and socially just Ireland where people from different backgrounds feel part of their communities. They promote equality and social cohesion by connecting with people from different ethnic backgrounds via social education initiatives.
Donegal Youth Council Chairperson Bridget McDyer says it will also be an opportunity to see those who are serious about representing everyone in the county.
“A lot of young people are very aware they don’t have a vote but we think its important young people’s views and opinions are taken on board too. We are planning a mix of serious and fun at the event too though and we would really urge all candidates to come along on the day and join in and mix with all the young people.”
