Both heroin and cannabis was found in a raid in Letterkenny last night.

Both heroin and cannabis was found in a raid in Letterkenny last night.

Two people were arrested after a large quantity of heroin and cannabis resin was found in Letterkenny last night.

More than a kilo worth of cannabis resin with a street value of €20,000 and €1,700 worth of heroin was discovered in the raid.

A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s were arrested at the scene and taken to Letterkenny Garda station for questioning under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

They were charged and will appear at a sitting of Letterkenny District Court in March.

Although cannabis resin has been discovered in numerous raids, the discovery of heroin is another reminder of the increasing availability of hard drugs.

A senior Garda spokesman told Donegal Daily they would appeal to people to be on the lookout for any suspicious activity in their localities.

“The public has a major role to play in the fight against drugs and we would welcome any information in this area.

“The discovery of this latest drugs haul is again a reminder of how drugs are readily available on our streets in Donegal.

“If anyone does have information on drugs dealing they should contact the confidential Garda helpline and we will take it form there,” said the spokesman.
