SNOW ON THE WAY FOR DONEGAL TONIGHT, SAY FORECASTERS

SNOW is on the way to the hills of Donegal tonight, say weather forecasters.

There may be an interval of heavy wet snow at fairly low elevations but hills will more certainly see a coating of 3-5 cms, says the most reliable online forecaster Irish Weather Online.

“Later on some mixed sleety showers could feed in from the Irish Sea and in north Mayo from Donegal Bay,” says the forecast.

“Snow could fall on higher terrain but lower down it’s more likely to be hail or sleet. Very cold with highs 3-6 C and feeling closer to -1 C due to northeast winds 40-70 km/hr.

“To summarize, the conditions will range from dry in about 20% of locations to wet (only rain) in about 50% with other places seeing hail, sleet or snow. Best bet for heavy snow would be higher parts of Dublin, Wicklow, the inland southeast and hills in Donegal and Mayo.”

If you’re out and about over mid-term, tomorrow, Monday looks like the best day of the week.

It will be cold – 4C to 8C – but the winds will slacken and it will be a calm, bright day.

However Tuesday is set to be horrible, with lashing rain and 80km/hr winds at times, with the north of the county set to be hit by even  higher winds from the north-east.
