NEW ALERT ISSUED AFTER BOGUS ‘ESB’ VAN SPOTTED AGAIN

written by Stephen Maguire February 16, 2016

A real ESB van.

A real ESB van.

Communities have been asked to be on the lookout after renewed sightings of a ‘bogus’ ESB van.

The yellow van, which has a partial registration of 151C, was seen acting suspiciously in the Killygordon area.

It is understood the van may even have an ESB logo on it.

The latest alert has been raised by local councillors Patrick McGowan and Gary Doherty.

It follows recent sightings in the Castlefinn area of a man calling to homes asking people to check on circuit boards.

It is believed the man is not employed y the ESB but is using a bogus iD so he can call to houses with a view to carrying out future burglaries.

Local Garda Sergeant Paul Wallace has appealed to people to ask workmen for identification if they call to their homes.

It is understood the latest scam is being used to assess when people will be out of their homes.

Sgt Wallace encouraged people to ask for ID saying that legitimate workmen will not mind producing such identification.

It is understood the bogus worker was almost caught after he was challenged by a member of the public for ID but went to his van and made a quick getaway.
