REVEALED: WIND FARMERS TOLD MASTS NEED PLANNING PERMISSION

windfarmsDONEGAL County Council has been told to order wind farm developers to remove two masts which have been erected illegally.

An Bord Pleannala says the council has known for over a year that two of three masts erected in the Finn Valley needed planning permission and no application was made.

“After numerous attempts to get clarification from the council since January 2015 regarding the legality of the erection of three meteorological masts on site of the proposed Carrickaduff development, this week ABP confirmed what we already knew that two of the masts are not exempt from planning permission and should not have been erected on site.” said Marie Scanlon from the Finn Valley Wind Action group.

“We are concerned that the local authorities did not take appropriate action when the masts were first erected and is now calling for Donegal County Council to take immediate action against the developer, ensure the masts are removed and proper planning procedures are adhered to.

“The council knows that there is a statutory obligation on the developer regarding this issue and we await for appropriate action to be taken on this matter.”
