SINN FÉIN HIT OUT AT RTÉ, CLAIMING PARTY BEING EXCLUDED FROM ELECTION COVERAGE

Sinn Fein claim they are being silenced by RTE

RTÉ NEWS is being challenged by Sinn Féin about why its choosing of news stories with a slant against the party is being unfairly used to slash its election coverage.

RTÉ News editors last week selected the Special Criminal Court controversy which had been raised by Fine Gael, Labour and Fianna Fáil and is now deducting that from Sinn Féin’s election airtime.

Sinn Fein says that RTÉ now claims that the story fuelled by political rivals is equivalent to election coverage enjoyed by the other parties.

Sinn Féin says the situation is “so bizarre that RTÉ even binned election manifesto questions by its own reporter at a Sinn Féin press conference in favour of a ridiculous question from the Irish Independent.”

Tonight’s Prime Time from Swords features two TDs from Government parties, a Fianna Fail TD and an independent candidate.

The coverage has sparked a war of words on social media, prompting Gerry Adams to deliver a two-minute video on Facebook tonight hitting out at the State broadcaster.

He says he is angry that his attempts to raise the issue of suicide with a support group in Cork today was not covered by RTÉ.
