New York fashion week provided us with plenty of fashion inspiration not just amazing clothes but also the trends we can expect in-terms of hair, make-up and accessories overall.

Patrick is a big fan of New York fashion week and is always inspired by the beautiful looks both from the classic designers and those with a little bit of an edge!

He has asked Rachel one of our very talented and creative designers to talk you through some of her favourite styles from New York fashion week.

Rachel says, “A few designers caught my eye during New York fashion week all for different reasons but some that I can certainly see filtering through the salon was showcased by Michael Kors, DKNY, Nicole Miller, Vera Wang and Zac Posen.

Michael Kors

Windblown hair in natural shades was the consistent theme across the Michael Kors runways which looked effortless and worked perfectly with the designers earthy deconstructed spring collection. The whole look felt attainable, elegant and carefree while still being glamorous and quirky – a nod to fashions current vision of an ideal woman right now. Rachel says the hairstyles would equally fit a glamorous or more casual look.

DKNY

The hair at DKNY’s catwalk was very clean and defined with an almost masculine feel with a side part and interestingly the majority of their models went make-up free. This pretty and paired back look is a big change for the usual extravagant catwalk looks from DKNY and illustrates that the DKNY girl has become a woman. Rachel says that one of the biggest attractions for this look is that any woman could wear it and as its fresh and beautiful.

Nicole Miller

The Nicole Miller collection showcased a more street smart look with a little less subtlety and a little more edge than the other designers mentioned. Rachel loves that this look could be carried off with either a beautiful party dress or a casual street style in fact it wouldn’t look out of place with a skateboard in hand! For those of you worried that you need to avoid shampoo to create dreadlocks Rachel says “don’t panic these dreadlocks can be created with a flat iron and some texture spray!

Vera Wang

If we were to describe the Vera Wang runway look we would say it was a little bit edgy and a little bit naughty. The heavy round fringe sits just below the eyebrows making it sexy and mysterious. This look is so chic, feminine and oozes confidence. Rachel says that the Fringe Trend is very much alive and the great thing about fringes is that there is one to suit every face shape.

Zac Posen

Zach Posen’s black tie chic look is another firm favourite of Rachel’s, runway looks. It was all about understated glamour (with the hair anyway) – low buns, pony tails and loose waves that look just as good with jeans as a beautiful cocktail gown.

Rachel says when choosing a hair style, you will feel most comfortable if you choose something that suits your personality and individuality, by all means use the catwalk for inspiration but you can always add subtle changes that reflects your personality, a good stylist will find out this type of information during your consultation and offer advice and guidance to help you achieve a look that is perfect for you.
