Action is being taken to address serious road safety concerns at Mahgherabeg National School in Manorcunningham.

Local county councillor Paul Canning has met with roads engineers and the NRA and has given them a detailed report with drawings on behalf of the school parents.

The response back from the relevant bodies have stated that an application will be made for a set of variable speed limit signs showing reduced speed limits at the appropriate times along with a long term plan to purchase land and construct a car park.

The NRA safety officer has looked at all other options that have been presented by Cllr Cannings report and the concerns raised by the parents but feels that they cannot be addressed within the Road Safety Guidelines.

Cllr Canning has spoken with the landowner concerned in relation to the upgrading and enlargement of the school car park.

Fianna Fail election candidate Charlie Mc Conalogue has also met and spoke with the principle of the school offering his assistance in working with the Department of Education to avail of any funding.
