WE WILL PUT AN EXTRA 3,000 GARDAI ON STREETS IF IN GOVT – SINN FEIN

GARDA Donegal TD and Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has said that Donegal would benefit from additional garda resources and more gardaí on the beat under a Sinn Féin government.

Deputy Mac Lochlainn also confirmed that his party planned to recruit an additional 3,000 gardaí to restore the force strength over the next five years, if in government.

Deputy Mac Lochlainn said “Under the recent governments of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil the number of gardaí has been slashed.

“Similarly they have shut down rural garda stations without consideration for the consequences of such decisions.

“The result is that elderly people in Donegal are scared in their own homes and crime has become a real concern for the citizens of this county.”

The Inishowen-based Deputy added that in many areas, people are unable to locate a guard for a trivial task like signing a form.

“Sinn Féin is committed to revitalising our towns and villages and to restoring the services which have been withdrawn.

“With regard to garda numbers, we have costed proposals to recruit an additional 3,000 gardaí. This increase would see more gardaí on the beat. We would also allow the gardaí to focus on tackling crime and protecting our communities.

“The safety of our communities is paramount and Sinn Féin has a real plan to undo the damage caused by Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil in this regard.”
