BLAZE BASKETBALL CLUB NOTES
Blaze u16 girls welcomed Glenties basketball club to the convent.
Blaze started off very strong and scored 27 points in the opening quarter to take an early lead. Blaze pushed the ball on the fast break and rebounded very well to maintain their lead throughout the game.
Blaze scorers were led by Katherine Kelly on 15 points and Eilis Dolan on 10 points but it was an all round team game with all 9 players getting on the scoresheet. Glenties Sarah Harkin finished on 20 points followed closely by Danielle Mc Devitt on 19 points.
Blaze u16 girls development team played Mulroy Hoops on Friday in what ended as a great battle for the two teams. Blaze started off well but it was a second quarter scoring spree that had them leading by 11 at half time. Mulroy came out fighting in the 3rd quarter and cut into Blaze’s lead and only trailed by 4 points at the end of the 3rd quarter. The battle continued in the final quarter and Blaze managed to finish the game out and win by 4 points. Cliodhna Harvey and Sinead Doherty led the scoring for Blaze and Lauren Carr was on form for Mulroy Hoops.
U14 boys had a weekend of games playing 3 in total over Sat/Sun. Their first game was away against Tyrone Towers where they won 33-25. They played the return leg of this as time is running out for games on Sun. They again took the win at 56-23 and then later in the day the boys played Donegal Town BC and got the hat trick by again winning 56-39. Everyone played really well and the boys deserved their wins.
U18 Girls played away on Sunday in PEC Belfast v Queens. They came away winners 68 to 55.
U12 boys travelled to Abbey Vocational school gym Donegal town on Sunday 21st Feb for their last North-west blitz before the finals in early March.
They recorded 3/3 wins, albeit one being a forfeit over Sligo. Great team play was the key and with every game the boys are improving both individually and collectively.
They beat Ballyshannon and Donegal comprehensively with their fast break game dominating.
It looks they will meet Ballyshannon again in the final with 2 wins apiece in the 4 competitive games so far.
