ALLIANZ NATIONAL LEAGUE: HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT AS ROSCOMMON OUTCLASS DONEGAL

Michael Murphy slots over a free during Donegal’s defeat to Roscommon this afternoon.

Allianz National League: Donegal have suffered their second successive loss in the NFL – as Roscommon outgunned and outclassed Rory Gallagher’s side this afternoon at O’Donnell Park.

Kevin McStay’s Roscommon side were absolutely outstanding with Cathal Cregg their standout performer.

Cregg netted a decisive goal late in the second-half to seal a deserved win for Roscommon.

The 7,142 attendance at a packed O’Donnell Park were treated to an open, expansive and exciting game of football.

In truth, a slow, slow start from Donegal really cost them, and after twenty minutes they trailed 0-07 to 0-01.

Donegal had a good spell towards the end of the first-half, but they still trailed at five points at the interval.

Roscommon went seven points ahead early in the second-half, but Michael Murphy took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored three vital points.

Ryan McHugh and McBrearty also got in on the act and they reduced the deficit to two points.

Roscommon were on the rack at that stage, but Odhran MacNiallais was red carded after receiving two yellows in the space of two minutes.

Two minutes later, and Peter Boyle was picking the ball out of his net, as MOTM Cathal Cregg dispatched his effort expertly past the Aodh Ruadh man.

That was the killer score, and it really came against the run of play at that stage of the match.

Roscommon added some quality scores late on, and their full-forward line dazzled throughout.

Donegal battled hard, and Murphy rattled the crossbar in the dying moments, but it was already game over.

A very, very disappointing result for Donegal who would’ve been hopeful of bouncing back after last weekend’s defeat to Kerry.

Final Score: Donegal 0-17 Roscommon 1-19
