FORECASTERS: A WEEK OF GLORIOUS WEATHER FOR DONEGAL

Sunrise at Errigal in Co. Donegal (Photo John Rafferty 0868320007)DONEGAL can get used to some welcome spring sunshine – it’s here for at least a week.

Temperatures topped 15C in Glenveagh National Park this afternoon as blue skies and bright sunshine replaced months of non-stop rain.

Met Eireann says Donegal got 150 per cent of its normal rainfall in January and February.

But a blocking high pressure system is going to give the county glorious weather for the next six or seven days….at least.

It may even continue into the middle of next week during the first week of the school Easter holidays.

Temperatures will dip to around 12C on St Patrick’s Day because of the easterly direction of the winds from the Continent.

However it is going to stay dry with soil temperatures topping 7C to give a return to growth.

Donegal will enjoy the best of the weather for the next week. It’s going to be cooler on the east coast.

However we can expect night time grass and air frost – and some morning mist and fog.

But sure what’s not to like?

MET EIREANN: The weather is going to continue dry and settled for the rest of the week and over the coming weekend with an anticyclone/high pressure system slow moving near Ireland and Britain blocking out the Atlantic rain belts. Winds will be from between southeast and northeast in direction; mostly moderate in strength but fresh at times in some coastal areas and over high ground.
Cloud amounts will vary through the week but all areas will have some pleasant sunny spells. The nights will be quite cold with some ground frost and fog and there is also a risk of air frost on some nights.
The days will feel quite chilly in northeastern, eastern and southern coastal counties with temperatures about 8 or 9 degrees in moderate to fresh onshore winds. Milder elsewhere with maxima typically of 11 to 13 degrees.
