BRAVE LETTERKENNY ROVERS U13’S BOW OUT OF FAI CUP TO ST KEVIN’S BOYS

FOOTBALL: Letterkenny Rovers fantastic run in this seasons SFAI National u13 cup came to an end on Saturday afternoon when they were on the wrong end of a 3-0 defeat at top Dublin side St Kevins Boys in the quarter finals.
After a win in the previous round over another Dublin kingpin in St Josephs Boys hopes were high of completing an unlikely  double but those hopes dissipated when Kevins hit 3 goals in the space of ten minutes midway through the first half.
Rovers had a couple of half chances through David Boyle and Joel Gorman before Kevins opened the scoring on 14 minutes when a cross from the right was met on the volley by the impressive Rory Kinsella who made no mistake firing past Killian Gribben.
The Donegal side were shocked with the concession of the opener and found themselves further behind just 6 minutes later when Dylan Quinn found the net after  a goalmouth scramble.
Rovers had a mountain to climb and their task was met all the harder when Kinsella finished neatly to the bottom corner on 24 minutes to put Kevins 3-0 ahead.
The second half was a much more even affair and Rovers defensive side performed admirably but the only real chance of note for Letterkenny to get back into it came from Nathan Plumb but his shot sailed over the bar.
A tough test in the capital for Michael Boyles charges but no doubt the experience gained will stand to the talented young side as they continue their progression through the underage ranks.
Letterkenny Rovers squad: Killian Gribben, Leon Doherty, Joel Gorman, Sean McVeigh, James Lenty Gallagher, James Barlow Gallagher, Adam Yissau, David Boyle, Sean McGinley, Dermot Slevin, Nathan Plumb,  Fouad Bashar, Odhran Galvin, Jonathan Pearson, Jake Kelly, Nathan Bonner, Jason Blake, Liam Hannigan
