The devastated woman who lost her husband, two sons, mother and sister in Sunday’s tragic accident in Buncrana – has said her four-month old baby is the only reason she has to go on.

Louise McGrotty lost her husband Sean 46, sons Mark 12, and Evan 8, her mother Ruth-Daniels 57, and sister Jodi-Lee 15, in Sunday’s horrific freak accident.

Louise was in Liverpool that weekend at her friend’s hen party – and was returning home when she learnt of the devastating tragedy that had unfolded on Sunday evening after a family day out.

Father Paddy O’Kane from the Holy Family Church in Derry said that the city is grippled in grief and that the family just can’t comprehend what has just happened.

Fr. O’Kane said that when he met Louise she told him ‘I’ve lost everyone.’

The priest said friends and family are completely inconsolable and in total shock at what has happened this family.

Fr. O’Kane revealed that Louise said having her baby daughter Rionaghac-Ann was ‘the only reason she had to live on’.

Baby Rionaghac-Ann was saved by former Derry City player Davitt Walsh, he heroic actions saved the baby’s life, and he gave a heart breaking account of the family’s last moments.

Davitt told Donegal Daily, “He handed me the baby and said, ‘Save my baby’ and I was like get out of the car, we need to get all of you out of the car.

“But when the window smashed the water just poured in and then the car just filled up, then he looked at me and said ‘Save my baby’ and then the car went under.

“I’ll never forget the look on his face, I just focused then on getting the bay infant back to shore.”
