Buncrana 0-9 V Downings0-4

Buncrana got their league campaign off to winning ways on Saturday evening with a 5 point win over Downings. This was the perfect start to a youthful Buncrana side driven by Garbhan Friel at centre half back along with the boot of John Campbell overcame Downings who notably missed Lorcan Connor.

Buncrana dominated mid field with Sean Parker helping from some good kick outs. Once again, Buncrana fielded some young guns like Aiden Stokes and Noel McLaughlin. Robert Farren should be happy with his start in this, a new role in management for him and his backroom team at Buncrana.

Buncrana Team,

Sean Parker. Conor Grant. William McLaughlin. Shane McLaughlin. Aiden Stokes. Garbhan Friel. Noel McLaughlin. Caolan McGonigle. Peter McLaghlin. Oisin O’Flaherty. John Campbell. Adrian Doherty. David Belle. Kevin Tracey. Odhran Doherty(X).

Scorers: John Campbell 0-3 (1f). David Belle 0-2 (1f) Odhran Doherty 0-2. Kevin Tracey 0-1. Oisin O’Flaherty 0-1.

Our reserves had a comfortable win in a one sided affair. A team with a great element of youth such as Ryan McElhinney, Andrew Doherty and Lee McCarron. John Cassidy was also strong for the reserves and mixed with the experience of players like Ronan Doherty and Ronan Doherty(X) Buncrana went in well ahead at half time. A talking point of the day was a superb goal from Andrew McLaughlin. Looks like McCanns men might be contenders again this year for success!

St Patrick Day:

Well done to all who helped make last Thursday such a memorable day for Buncrana GAA. From the underage blitz, to the chefs who slaved over the cooker for our breakfast baps, to the parents and coaches who organised the parade float, and to those who called for breakfast, a big THANK YOU. It is great to say that so many people helped out that it would be unfair to try and name them. Parents, coaches and clun members can be proud of the representation of our young members in the parade.
