CONTROVERSY AS DUBLIN PLAYER ACCUSED OF EYE-GOUGING DONEGAL STAR

GAA disciplinary chiefs could be forced to investigate claims that Dublin player James McCarthy eye-gouged Martin McElhinney at Croke Park tonight.

In the pictures above, it shows McCarthy jousting with the St Michael’s clubman – and in the final screenshot of the exchange it appears McCarthy shoves his thumb in McElhinney’s eye.

McElhinney didn’t appear to suggest he was eye-gouged after the incident, and no other Donegal player reacted badly to the unsavoury clash.

However, it has created a storm of controversy on Twitter, with many GAA fans appalled at what they perceive to be a blatant attempt by McCarthy to gouge McElhinney’s eye.

James McCarthy eventually seen red along with Michael Murphy in what was a feisty clash.

There could be an investigation launched into this clash as the photographic evidence is pretty damning.

Dublin player Phillip McMahon was accused of eye-gouging Kieran Donaghey in last year’s All-Ireland final, while in 2013 it was alleged that Patrick McBrearty was bitten by a player.
