unnamed-25Danny Ryan from Boxfit & Neil Barrett from FitHub would like as many people as possible to attend the FREE circuit class at 2:00pm in the aura leisure centre in Letterkenny today.

It’s all part of ‘Be Well Week’ – promoting youth mental health.

A wide range of positive mental health activities designed by young Travellers and members of other ethnic minority communities continue all week.

“We’re trying to raise awareness town-wide of mental health issues in youth,” said Martin Mongan of Donegal Travellers Project (DTP), who is a Community Youth Facilitator of Be Well Week along with Happy Mutyono of Donegal Youth Service (DYS).

The week has been planned as part of a unique collaboration that DTP has undertaken this year with DYS to support young people from diverse ethnic backgrounds in work- ing together in an intercultural and inclusive way.

The project, which is funded by the Community Foundation for Ire- land, is the first of several projects that young people will be designing and delivering as a means of pro- moting mental health awareness and reducing mental health stigma.

As part of their work together, young members of the Be Well Week Steering Committee have en- gaged in a number of exercises de- signed to increase their familiarity with one another. “The exercises showed everybody really open to sharing and getting to know each other,” Happy said.

While the Steering Group has been based in Letterkenny, which is also the site of most of the Be Well Week activities, a horse care work- shop for young Travellers living in South Donegal is also included in the schedule.
