Figures issued by the C.S.O in recent days show a welcome reduction in residential burglaries across Donegal.
As part of Operation Thór The lock up and light up campaign continues and residents are reminded not to become complacent as the criminals haven’t gone away!
Divisional Crime Prevention Officer Sgt. Paul Wallace based at Letterkenny told Donegal Daily, “At this time of year coming out of winter into spring it is heartening to see we have got over the dark winter period which is normally a driver of residential burglaries with a slight decrease in reported crime in this category’.
He continued ‘ In part the decrease may be attributed to members of the public becoming more crime aware and taking simple advice and precautions in relation to their personal and home security’
Remembering to turn on some lights when at home or going out, use of timer switches, actually locking doors and considering installing an intruder alarm and if you have one actually using it all can help in deterring the criminal from targeting your home.
Across Donegal there is a significant increase in householders becoming involved in Neighbourhood Watch Community Alert and by extension Text Alert and people are becoming more proactive by actually contacting Gardaí if they notice suspicious activity or the movement of cars / vans in their localities this information is of vital importance to Gardaí in the fight against crime.
