The Letterkenny Rovers team which faced Ringmahon in Cork today.

A hugely disappointed Letterkenny Rovers were just seconds from a historic place in the Intermediate Cup Final only for disaster to strike.

The Donegal team were already dreaming of a trip to the Aviva Stadium after leading for 75 minutes of this game when Steve Okakpu netted to make it 1-0 in the 15th minute.

Eamon McConigley’s side battled hard throughout and Terence Shiels could have put the game beyond Cork side Ringmahon.

Ringmahon piled on the pressure on Rovers in the last 20 minutes but it looked like the Donegal team would hold out for a historic win.

But disaster struck with what was the last kick of the game when Roy Kenny’s deflected shot ended up in the Letterkenny goal to make it 1-1.

It was a cruel blow for Rovers who would have been deserving winners on the day.

The Letterkenny outfit would have taken a draw before the kick-off but coming so close to a place in the final having led so long in this semi-final was difficult to take.

The ball is very much in Rovers’ court now as they host the replay against Ringmahon at Leckview in two weeks time.

A place in the final on May 14th at the Aviva is still all to play for.
