LYIT students have formed a guard of honour in memory of the late student Edward Connell.

Edward Connell, 22, from Sunset Drive, Carton Point, Sligo was a second-year nursing student at LYIT.

His body was recovered from the River Swilly yesterday afternoon, after Gardaí launched a search when personal belongings and clothing where found close to the Port Bridge.

Classmates have been left stunned and shocked following the tragic death of a young man described as being extremely popular who had a bubbly and bright personality.

Many of his former classmates and other students from LYIT helped form a guard of honour this morning in the pouring rain, as his late remains travelled past the campus en-route to his late residence in Sligo.

Counselling has been offered to students affected by the tragedy.
