BATTLING ROVERS COME FROM BEHIND TO KEEP FAI SENIOR CUP DREAM ALIVE

The Letterkenny Rovers team which played Portmarnock in Dublin today.

A battling Letterkenny Rovers side earned themselves a draw in the FAI Senior Cup today against Portmarnock.

The performance, which saw Rovers come from behind, now means that Eamon McConigley’s side will play the Dublin outfit again in two weeks time at Leckview Park.

It all leads to a heck tic schedule for Rovesr who will play Cork outfit Ringmahon in the replay of their FAI Intermediate Cup semi-final fixture this Sunday, also at Leckview Park.

On a very blustery day, Rovers fell behind after just nine minutes today when Chris Burgess put Portmarnock ahead.

But Rovers settled themselves after a nervy first 20 minutes and began to get into the game.

In the 63rd minute Darren McElwaine dragged his side back into the game with a well-taken goal to make it 1-1.

The clever money was on Rovers at this stage but disaster struck when former Finn Harps player Tommy Bonner was sent of just three minutes after the equaliser.

The sending-off put Rovers on the back foot and despite trying to snatch a winner, the Dublin side soaked up the pressure and used the extra man well.

Eamon McConigley will be happy that his side showed great fighting spirit and will be relishing two big games in just a week of eachother.
