A hotel owned by a well-known Donegal businessman has been given a €100,000 payout by its insurance company following a fatal shooting at the business.

The Regency Hotel in Dublin took Aviva Insurance to the High Court for making no pay-out following the shooting two months ago.

The hotel, which is owned by Donegal businessman Jim McGettigan, complained it had been plunged “back into recessionary conditions” after the much publicised killing.

The hotel won its claim last week but had still not received any payment.

The hotel has now received at least €100,000 for “business interruption” and that figure is likely to get bigger.

The hotel is also claiming for losses since February 15th as part of an overall claim of more than €217,000.
