There is growing speculation that the winner of a lotto jackpot of more than €8 million could be from Donegal.
The ticket was bought at Matt Lyons shop in Sligo Town on March 5th last.
But there is a real mystery as the National Lottery hasn’t paid out after a huge €8.24 million winning ticket.
A ticket holder claimed the huge fortune on Wednesday, 30th March, which was 13 days ago.
It is understood that there are things which need to be resolved before the money can be paid out.
The winning numbers of the €8.4 million draw were 2, 8, 16, 24, 33, 42 with a bonus number of 47.
The winner purchased a €20 Normal Play ticket on the day the draw was made, Saturday March 5th.
A Lottery spokesman said, “We are continuing to engage with the ticket holder and won’t be making any further comment at this time.”
Shopowner Matt said the winner could be one of a number of hen parties who visited Sligo that weekend.
“We just don’t know,” said Matt.
“There were a lot of hen parties in town that weekend and a lot of visitors around so the winner or winners could be from anywhere in Ireland or from abroad.
“It certainly took a while for the ticket holder to come forward.”
He added “It’s a bit of a strange one all right.
“There has been something of a mystery about the winner over the past month or so, but as a retailer we aren’t given any information unless the winner goes public.
“I understand that the lottery have said they are engaging with the ticket holder but that nothing has been paid out as yet.
“I hope that whatever the issue is that it is resolved.”
