BUSINESS: A dynamic, vibrant and innovative new Donegal business – ‘Smart Mums Market’ have announced exciting new expansion plans.

Smart Mums Market, is the brainchild of entrepreneurial duo Antoinette Doherty, and Sandra Docherty, both of whom hail from Buncrana.

Both women lived in the UK, for the best part of a decade – and had both attended indoor markets for mums.

On their return home, they identified a gap in that market and decided to start their own business.

Smart Mums Market is an indoor market for buyers and sellers of baby and children’s nearly-new clothes, shoes, toys and equipment for 0-10 years; including buggies, bikes, cots, nursery furniture, large indoor and outdoor toys, maternity gear and everything else that comes with raising children.

Speaking at the Buncrana Enterprise Town event on Friday afternoon they explained their idea behind their business.

“We both lived in the UK for over ten years, and we both attended markets that focused on the trading of quality children and baby items.

“When we both moved back home, we spoke about the gap that existed in the market for something similar here, and we were both confident there would be a demand for it.

“Thankfully, we’ve been proved right, we’ve done six markets across Inishowen and Letterkenny, and they’ve been a great success, the response has been incredible.”

The ambitious duo are so delighted with the appetite and demand for their markets, that they plan on expanding it out to other counties.

“We’re hoping to branch out now in the next few months, we want to replicate what we’ve done in Donegal on a bigger scale.

“We’re currently in the process of building a new website, and we’ll control everything through that, we just need to identify people in those counties that can run the markets for us in their respective areas.

The next Smart Mums Market is on Saturday May 14th, and the girls are encouraging anyone who hasn’t attended the markets before to drop in.

“We ensure the products up for sale are of a high quality, we vet each stall, and thankfully since we started the products on offer have all been genuinely top-class.

“We’ve got a market next month, and it’s being held at the Radisson Hotel in Letterkenny, so anyone who would be interested in setting up a stall can contact us through Facebook.”
