Donegal’s Local Enterprise Office is hosting ‘Creative Network Meetings’ in Inishowen and Letterkenny this week.
Open to all creative entrepreneurs, and those who would like a career in the creative industry, the pilot network meetings are part of Donegal’s LEO ‘Strategic Action Plan for Creative Entrepreneurship in Donegal’.
The Inishowen Creative Network Meeting takes place today, Tuesday 19th April at 2pm in the Carndonagh Public Service Centre and the Letterkenny Creative Network Meeting takes place on Thursday, 21st April at 2.30pm in the Local Enterprise Office, Ballyraine.
The meetings in Inishowen and Letterkenny will mark the final opportunity for creatives to join, before the Creative Networks are formally set up in May 2016.
The Creative Network Meetings follow on from the success of Donegal Business Week, which saw a host of the county’s creative talent gather together to breathe new life into an unused commercial building in Letterkenny. Taking over the Centre Building on Justice Walsh Road, artists and designers turned the space into a hub of creativity, showcasing the work of some of Donegal’s best talent.
The exhibition was curated by Adrian Kelly of The Glebe Gallery, Churchill and brought together 48 of Donegal’s creative entrepreneurs across a wide range of disciplines, including music, fine art, sculpture, film-making, graphic design, illustration, fashion design, ceramics and wood-turning.
Exhibitors included members of Donegal Designer Makers, Local Hands of Ballyshannon, artist Sean O’ Brogain, DNK Media Production, Redmond Herrity Sculpture, Mulroy Music, Andromeda Artisans and historical costume maker, Thomas Brogan. An interactive workshop entitled ‘Connecting Your Creative Talent’, helped participants share experiences and learn from other creative businesses, as well as offering advice on the latest supports available under the EU project ‘My Creative Edge’.
Guest speakers visiting Donegal for the event included Jonathan Ball, glass and metal artist, Javier Burón Garcia, director of Limerick Fab Lab, Gary Reddin, illustrator and designer and Pauline White, policy analyst, Western Development Commission.
Michael Tunney, Head of Enterprise at Donegal’s LEO, said: “The Donegal Local Enterprise Office launched A Strategic Action Plan For Creative Entrepreneurship in Donegal in May 2015. A key aim of this strategy is to raise the profile and visibility of the creative sector in the county. The exhibition during Donegal Business Week highlighted the immense and diverse talent we have in the creative sector in Donegal and we’re keen to build on that now. To this end, I would encourage anyone working in the creative sector in Donegal to attend our Creative Network Meetings so that they might benefit from the opportunities that joining the network presents.”
