Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes -25th April 2016

Seniors

The Seniors started the defence of their Championship in a highly entertaining game against St. Kiernans on Sunday in the preliminary round at Ruislip. The Gaels hit the ground running, shooting into a 3 point lead courtesy of Mark Gottsche and Adrian Hanlon points. The Kiernan’s then hit their own purple patch levelling the match at 5 points apiece going into half-time. Adrian Hanlon continued to be a thorn in the Kiernan’s defence in the second half tagging on a further 3 points and when John McGrath hit the onion bag the game was over as a contest. Final score 1-11 to 0-09.

Juniors

The juniors played Eire Og in the preliminary round of the Junior Championship on Saturday evening at Ruislip. Missing a few regulars, the boys got off to a slow start and went into the break 5 points adrift after conceding a soft goal. A goal inside the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half set up an exciting final 20 minutes and despite of getting within 2 points the young guns were unable to get back on level terms. See the Tir Chonaill Gaels website for full match report. Next up for the boys is the McArdle Cup Final which will likely be played on the weekend 7/8th of May.

Peter McGlynn Memorial Tournament

Well done to all involved in hosting the annual Peter McGlynn Memorial Tournament at Greenford at the weekend. A special word of thanks to Michael and Margaret McGlynn who came over from Donegal specially for the occasion and to the Minor Board for the organisation of the tournament.

Race Night

The club held the first main fundraiser of the year at the clubhouse on Friday night and we would like to thank all who bought a horse, sponsored a race and who came along on the evening. A big thank you to race marshals/bookies who were very careful with the odds! Stephen McLoughlin, Maurice Carr & Michael Mullen.
