A West Donegal county councillor is fuming after a pole was erected in the middle of a footpath in the village of Annagry.

Councillor Micheal Mac Giolla Easbuig says he simply cannot understand how permission was given for the pole to be placed there.

He said the pole is hazard for wheelchair users and parents with prams.

“If you are a wheelchair user, you will find it impossible to use this footpath in Annagry.

“I think it’s just not acceptable that some members of our community cannot do what the rest of us take for granted, like use a footpath through a village.

“It’s also a hazard for parents with buggies as they are forced into the road to get around it,” he said.

Councillor Mac Giolla Easbuig said he raised the issue with the council more than a year ago but still nothing has been done about it.

“I’ve been raising this issue with the Council over this last year and a half and still they haven’t re-located it. Myself and others believe this to be totally and utterly unacceptable. I will keep fighting to get the council to move on this for I believe it’s an issue of disability discrimination,” he fumed.
