BEALTAINE 2016 IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER

Bealtaine 2016 cover2This year is the 19th Bealtaine Festival, which takes place in May and has over 170 events to attract and entertain its audience.

Bealtaine 2016 is once again all about celebrating creativity, with events taking place throughout County Donegal in libraries, Taobh Tíre Centres, arts and community venues, community hospitals and day care centres.

The theme for 2016 continues with Bealtaine’s three-year exploration of Nationhood and Citizenship and specifically reflects on the first generations of citizens inhabiting the new Irish State. The festival will also consider where we are culturally, as a maturing nation and people.

The festival is organised by the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny and Donegal County Council Library Service in association with many partner organisations.

Bealtaine 2016 in Co. Donegal is part of a country wide celebration of creativity in older age. Age and Opportunity coordinate events nationally. These encompass art forms such as music and dance, history lectures, knitting and crochet plus cinema and art classes, engaging older people as performers, attendees and in the organisation of events.

The 19th Annual Bealtaine Festival Launch will be held in The Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny on Tuesday May 3rd at 11.00am. The festival will be launched by Councillor Ciaran Brogan, Cathaoirleach, Contae Dhún na nGall followed by Active Ireland speaker Grainne Haines.

Entertainment will be provided by Fergus Cleary and Virgil Quinn. This launch is sponsored by the Europe Direct Information Centre, Central Library, Letterkenny. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to this free event.

For more information about this event and other Bealtaine events in libraries and Taobh Tíre centres contact your local library where you can collect a programme or download one at www.donegallibrary.ie.
