Two car washes in Letterkenny have been closed due to health and safety concerns.

Gardai, backed up by a number of Government agencies, swooped on the businesses earlier today.

The two outlets, owned and operated by a Romanian businessmen, were raided by Gardai just before 11am.

Gardai interviewed a number of men and women at the car washes on both the Pearse Road and Link Road in Letterkenny.

A Garda spokesman confirmed an operation did take place at two centres which have been operating for at least two years at the sites.

He also confirmed that two car washes have now been shut down.

The other agencies involved in the raids included the Health and Safety Authority, the Department of Social Protection, the Work Relations Commission and the ESB.

The car washes were officially closed down by the HSA because of health and safety concerns.

A spokesman for the HSA confirmed “The HSA carried out workplace health and safety inspections at 2 separate car wash premises in Letterkenny today. We do not discuss the details of our inspections.”
