FEATURES: This year, Letterkenny Youthreach is celebrating our 25 year anniversary and as part of an on-going campaign of promotional activities and projects we have embarked on a creative writing and playset competition for our local primary schools.
Recently young people in 4th – 6th class were invited to write an original story and accompany it with a drawing of an adventure playground which they would like to see built for their school.
After hundreds of entries, we have now chosen a winner; Rioghnach McFadden from Scoil Cholmcille, Newtowncunningham.
Using her drawing as a starting point, Learners in Youthreach will now work with their woodwork tutor, Andy Dowds, to design, plan, create and install this ambitious three section adventure play set at Scoil Cholmcille.
This is such a multi beneficial project for all involved; an excellent opportunity for the young people in Youthreach to learn the practical skills involved in such a project while using the evidence of the work produced to satisfy their formal QQI level 4 accreditation and it also provides Scoil Cholmcille with a new play area for their children.
We are now raising funds for this project and have had pledges and donations from a variety of local businesses and to this end the Bank of Ireland has kindly allowed us to hold a community fund-raising stall in their branch on Main Street, Letterkenny on Friday 6th May, as part of their Community Smiles campaign.
We will be there on the day from11am—3pm providing tea/coffee and treats to anyone who calls into the branch on the day. The great news is for every penny that is donated to our cause on the day the Bank of Ireland will match it!
So hopefully this will go a long way towards our over all costs.
We are hoping that as many people as possible can call in and make a small donation on the day as every little bit helps. So if you are in the area call in and say hi and we’ll give you a warm reception, a cuppa and wee treat!
