Are you are about to take the Leaving Certificate, currently unemployed, interested in part-time study, or thinking of studying on one of the many postgraduate programmes at Letterkenny Institute of Technology?
Then you need to attend LYIT Open Evening on Wednesday 11 May from 2-7pm at the Letterkenny campus.
From Full-time to Part-time programmes, Springboard offerings, and an extensive suite of Postgraduate programmes, LYIT has a lot to offer in 2016/2017.
With 49 CAO programmes available, Leaving Certificate students have an extensive range of programmes to choose from, with over half of these offering work placements. The student experience is not to be missed at LYIT, with just under 50 clubs, societies, and sporting and recreational activities to choose from. The student experience is a positive one at LYIT.
In addition, LYIT is on hand to support your endeavours by providing gateways into education for many. A new entrant sports scholarship scheme is available to students who have excelled at the highest representative level in GAA and Soccer. Also, the REACH Scholarship programme, introduced in 2015/2016, has been developed to provide financial support to students who might not progress onto third level due to having a disability, or lacking the financial wherewithal to participate.
For the unemployed, LYIT has a full complement of Springboard courses available, specifically geared towards them. These courses, will commence in August and September 2016, and are aimed at unemployed persons who, subject to meeting certain criteria, will retain any payments they are in receipt of from the Department of Social Protection for the duration of their programme of study. John Andy Bonar, Head of Development, commenting on the initiatives said, “We now have a fantastic array of opportunities available for the more mature learner. I think the people of the North-West region will be interested to know that we offer part-time courses at all levels from Foundation to Certificate/Diploma to Postgraduate level. We want to make education as accessible as possible to the people of this area and would be happy to discuss their options with them.”
A scholarship scheme entitled ‘Pushing Boundaries’ provides students who applied to complete a full-time Postgraduate Masters, and are not in receipt of other financial support, the opportunity to apply for scholarship support. This is a progressive initiative by the Institute which will enable fourth level education to be more accessible to people. The Registrar, Billy Bennett, highlighted that, “Pushing Boundaries will afford talented and driven individuals the opportunity to obtain a Masters level qualification which will further enhance their career prospects and opportunities. Very often, financing a postgraduate Masters is the biggest barrier to completing it, therefore, Pushing Boundaries is an initiative that will hopefully mitigate that barrier.”
