DMRT volunteers needed help themselves after the rescue!

A CYCLIST has been air-lifted to hospital after breaking his leg in a fall on Sliabh Liag

Donegal Mountain Rescue responded to the call to help two people on trial bikes in the area of the Pilgrims Path.

“One individual had fallen and broken his leg. His colleague had descended down the mountain to get assistance. A local farmer assisted the individual in calling 999 emergency services when mobile coverage became available he then returned to be with the casualty,” said a DMRT spokesman.

Killybegs Coast Guard was also tasked to assist on the call out.

The injured man was airlifted by Rescue 118 to Sligo General Hospital.

Donegal Mountain Rescue would also like to thank JD Recovery services for assisting them with their Alpha vehicle that did not make it all the way.

The spokesman said: “As you know we are a group of volunteers that rely almost wholly on public donations to keep our teams trained, certified and ready to assist.

“We also spend a significant amount of money on maintaining our vehicles which sadly, like today sometimes don’t make it all the way. Any contribution, financial or otherwise is always greatly appreciated and allows Donegal Mountain Rescue to continue putting personal and resources in the hills when they are most needed.”
