Luke Skywalker has officially put Donegal on the world stage after changing his twitter profile picture!

Actor Mark Hamill arrived in Inishowen yesterday for today’s filming segments for the fire Star Wars blockbuster.

And last night the Hollywood icon captured the imagination of his 1.1 million twitter followers by posting a picture of the set with a stunning backdrop.

The picture, which shows the much debated ‘Millennium Falcon’ image on the edge of the rugged Donegal coastline, has captured the imagination of Star Wars fans worldwide.

Filming on the set begins today with a huge air of anticipation across Malin Head and the entire Inishowen Peninsula.

The cast and crew are understood to be staying at the Redcastle Hotel where a fleet of luxury cars, jeeps and coaches are ready to transport the stars to the film location.

But those hoping to catch a glimpse of their on-screen heroes may be left disappointed.

A massive ring of steel has been thrown around the film set with roads around Malin head blocked off to the public all weekend.
