A well-known Donegal businessman has been killed in a car accident in Monaghan.

A well-known Donegal businessman has been killed in a car accident in Monaghan.

A Co Donegal has been killed in a road accident in Co Monaghan today.

The well-known businessman, who was in his 50s, died when the car he was driving left the road and collided with a wooden fence at Drumcrew, Castleblayney, on the N2.

The accident happened at approximately 4pm today.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

A female passenger in the car was uninjured.

The man’s name has not yet been released until all his relatives have been informed of the tragedy.

This stretch of road is currently closed pending the completion of an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Castleblayney Garda Station on 042-9740668842870, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
