COMMUNITY ALERT: BURGLARY ATTEMPT ON ELDERLY COUPLE

CRIME ALERT: An attempted burglary at the home of an elderly couple in Milford has sent shockwaves through the area.

The attempted burglary occurred last Friday at the household of Bernadette and Michael O’Donnell, in the Drumbern area of Milford at 3.30 am.

The young man who was staying with his grandparents on the night of the incident the back door of the house being opened at 3.30 am.

As the young man got out of bed and headed for the kitchen to his shock he found a man before him.

The family member who wishes to remain anonymous told Donegal Daily, “I found a man rooting through the presses, I shouted at him to get out, and he started to come towards me, and a struggle ensued which lasted a few minutes.”

The burglar pushed the man over a couch which was in the kitchen and made for the door in a quick getaway.

“I went and checked on both of my grandparents to ensure they were OK, and thankfully they were, my grandmother had heard the whole thing and was terrified, she notified Milford Garda station, and within 15 minutes two guards were at the house.”

The burglar in question was roughly 6ft’ had a stocky build with a ginger stubbly beard, and looked like he was in his late twenties or early thirties, he was wearing a black hoody, blue jeans and was also wearing black shoes with green and white gardening gloves.

“We would like to notify the public about this man, as a neighbour has also informed us that her house’s back door was tampered with in recent days” – said the family member.
