“REACTION TO OUR DEFEAT AGAINST DUBLIN WAS HYSTERICAL” – MAXI CURRAN

GAA: Donegal’s assistant manager Maxi Curran has said the reaction to their defeat to Dublin in the League semi-final was hysterical, and reiterated that all the focus is on the Ulster SFC.

Donegal face Fermanagh on June 12th, after Pete McGrath’s side overcame Antrim in the Preliminary round.

However, many pundits rounded on Donegal after they suffered five successive defeats in the league.

Donegal won their opening three leagues, before then losing the next four, but still squeezed into the semi-finals.

Dublin defeated them comfortably at Croke Park in the league semi-final, but the fallout from that defeat was hysterical according to Curran.

Just two weeks previous to the leagyue semi-final Donegal were level, with 13 minutes to go, when Michael Murphy saw red, and Dublin edged the win.

Curran told The Irish Times, “Two weeks previous there was two points between us and Dublin with 67 minutes on the clock, Michael Murphy was sent off with 15 minutes to go and we were very much in the game. Then two weeks later we were finished as a team.

“It’s people’s perceptions of the league, people do get hysterical about one result, they get carried away with one good day and equally get carried away with one bad day.

“We knew at that stage, we were so far out from the championship – and it’s no secret a lot of our boys have a fair bit of mileage on the clock – so we couldn’t go at it hell for leather for the entire league and still be fresh for June.”
