DD LIFESTYLE: YOUR COMPLETE GUIDE ON HOW TO BE THE BEST BRIDESMAID EVER

BRIDESMAIDDD LIFESTYLE: Your bestie has asked you to be a bridesmaid. You’ve hugged, screamed with excitement and clinked glasses in celebration.

But what does it mean, apart, from wearing a new gúna and carrying a bouquet. And maybe a quick snog with one of the groomsmen.

Here are some tips to make you the best bridesmaid ever.

1. Be interested.

It’s going to be a long road to the wedding day and it might be THE only thing your best buddy wants to talk about…the dress, different styles, colour schemes, hair, make-up,the music, the invitations, the honeymoon, the dress again.

There are bound to be tensions along the way but the bride values you as a friend. Be helpful, a shoulder to cry on when things get stressful, offer to go with her to appointments, don’t moan.

2. Don’t bitch about the bridesmaid dress

It may not be your colour or your style. It may make you look 10lbs heavier and aged you 5 years. But it’s her choice. Try it on and if she still thinks you look stunning and the colour is perfect (which just so happens to totally drain you). Suck it up. It’s just for a few hours.

3. The Bride’s Dress

She has shown you every white dress in every bridal magazine for the last three months. She plans on going to every bridal boutique within a 300 mile radius. Stay calm, make a fuss as she tries on the umpteenth dress and don’t just say yes to one to make it back home for Eastenders.

4. Don’t forget about the mother of the bride

Talk with the bride’s mum. Give her her place. Be helpful and offer to take on any jobs..researching beauty salons, stationary prices. Suggest ideas for wedding favours.

5. The Hen Party

Know your bride. Would she prefer a low-key spa-type occasion or an all-out party weekend away? Timing is everything. Co-ordinating a weekend that suits everyone is tough so try to avoid leaving it to the last minute.

6. Bridal survival kit

On the day, have emergency lipstick, make-up, safety pins, on standby. It will help calm any nerves. Make sure the bride eats something for breakfast.Yes, it’s also good to have some Champagne on ice but one glass is enough for the bride. You don’t want her slurring through the marriage vows.

7. Stay on friendly terms with the other bridesmaids.

You may not all know each other well but exchange numbers and ask each other about ideas. It helps to minimise tensions if everyone feels included and informed.

8. Don’t get smashed …keep it a conga-free zone

At the wedding reception, it’s important to the bride that everyone is having a great time. Slow down on the alcohol, you don’t want to be the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons. You may not feel like dancing in your bridesmaid horror-frock but it would look so mean-spirited to sit at the table all night. Mingle with guests.
