unnamed-216Forget the fashion runways in London Paris or Milan, Trash N Fashion 2016 had it all in their recent Grand Finale event held in The Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny.

Front stage, the followers and fashionistas gathered to support the creative designers while backstage the designers and models mingled with anticipation and excitement at the outcome of the night while adding last minute sparkle to their creations with hair and makeup extravaganza.

Who knew that recycled rubbish, up cycled and everyday items and products that normally make the landfill could look so glamorous, setting trends for the local fashion world?

Thomas Mc Laughlin designer with John Rocha who has attended numerous London fashion week product ions with Rocha collections was impressed by the overall production.

Mc Laughlin says “with limited budget and a voluntary not for profit production this is a credit to all involved. The young designers have produced a stunning collection of work that would not be out of place on some of the top fashion house catwalks in the world”.

Thomas was also joined on the night by LYIT promoting their new Fashion and Merchandising course, and he feels confident, many of these young people could well have a very successful career in the fashion industry.

It wasn’t just the fashion that was on display but a full programme of entertainment and dance added to this outstanding event, showcasing a full range of talents and creativity of youth in the county, from Pinehill Studios, Blue Ribbon, An Cue Cultural & Performing Arts, Niamh Breslin, 5th year Champions from Loreto Lip Sync, and a DNK Media Production did a recycled cover of Heyya from recycled paint tins, biscuits boxes, a sight to behold, worth a view on You Tube.

The winning creations on the night were:
Trash N’ Fashion Dress creation winner – Bouclez – Carndonagh Community School.

Trash N Fashion Accessorise – “Unorthodox” Scoil Mhuire Buncrana, Team: Mariusz Malon Teacher: Marie Boyce

Trash N Fashion Up cycle – “Waste Coat” Loreto Convent Letterkenny Team: Brodie Mc Feely, Mirren Mc Feely. Teacher: Anita Hughes

Karen Murphy the original brainchild behind Trash N Fashion and Evelyn mc Glynn who partnered with Karen this year was vocal in praise for all those who contributed and supported this charitable event in any way.

All proceeds from this year’s event go to Jigsaw Donegal supporting young people in the area of mental health.

The days ahead for Trash N Fashion North West look very exciting with an unmistakable energy and fashion talent that will see this event expand and grow over the years and how knows on day a Trash N Fashion entrant may well dress the Sarah Jessica Parkers of Kardashians of the world in one of their creations.

Likewise Trash N Fashion one day could be at the centre of an International Fashion week in Donegal’s Wild Atlantic Way.

Check out the Trash N Fashion face book page to keep up to date with all the Trash N Fashion News and feel free to contact Karen or Evelyn if you have any interest in Trash N Fashion 2017.
