The Donegal man who famously lifted Sam Maguire for the first time ever in 1992 – will be given the freedom of the county.

Anthony Molloy, was the first Donegal man to get his hands on the precious cup, and the euphoria of that historic moment still lives long in the memory of many Donegal GAA supporters.

He will now be given the accolade at a ceremony next week in Lifford, where he will also be awarded with a civic reception.

It’s a fabulous honour for a player who gave years of service to Donegal GAA, and he will become the first ever GAA player to be given the freedom of the county.

The popular Ardara man was instrumental during Donegal’s breakthrough year under Brian McEniff in 1992.

A starring role in midfield that sunny September day in 1992 by Molloy, ensured Donegal made history.

Congratulations Anthony, a very deserving winner.
