SINGER Daniel O’Donnell has spoken out on why he and his wife Majella care so passionately about Relay For Life.
The couple were in Letterkenny yesterday to see in the end of the 24-hour fundraising drive with up to 20,000 people visiting the LyIT campus on Saturday and Sunday.
The money raised goes to the Irish Cancer Society – to help fund its research.
“There are so many good causes and so many charities helping people with cancer,” said Daniel.
“I’ve always supported this cause because if we can find cures for cancers, everyone benefits.
“That’s why this is so so important and that’s why we come to support this event and the incredible people involved in running it and organising it.”
The weekend was a celebration of the lives lost to cancer, and also a time of remembrance.
But it was also a weekend of hope with so many cancer survivors taking part.
Meanwhile Majella says she feels great after her own battle against cancer in 2013 – and loved being at yesterday’s event.
“Daniel and I have had a great few months. The cruise was amazing and it was great to relax for so long,” she said.
“This is a very special event for us and we always try to get here,” she added.
The couple begin filming their B&B Road Trip for UTV this week.
And there were some light-hearted moments for the couple yesterday as Daniel told how he and Majella had been baby-sitting their grand-daughter Olivia.
“She was awake from 1am until 4am today; and we were also a wake at the same time,” joked Daniel.
“It’s definitely a young man’s game,” he laughed.
