Hi! I’m Mairéad, I’m a Primary School Teacher but love keeping up to date with the latest trends and love blogging about lifestyle and fashion. Hope you enjoy my posts!

LIFESTYLE AND FASHION WITH MAIRÉAD: Hello!  This week I’m going to be talking about sunscreen. With holiday season in full swing  and the glorious weather we’ve been getting here of late- which we should definitely be making the most of as in Ireland we know it could end at any minute!

It is however, extremely important that you protect your skin from sun damage, I think us Irish are very clued in when it comes to wearing sunscreen abroad but we can be quite neglectful when it comes to protecting ourselves from the sun here at home  for the simple reason being that we don’t get enough!keep-calm-and-wear-sunscreen-3Any sign of sunshine and we are out straight away trying to catch as many rays as possible without a second thought about sun cream-“sure we don’t get it that much what harm can it do? ” A LOT!!!

They’re probably going to kill me for saying this but unlike me, my brothers take a great colour and the tops come off at the first sign of sunshine!!!! I remember years ago my brother putting cooking oil on himself to purposely make himself burn whilst out in sun- sounds insane now doesn’t it?!

Thankfully Magees Pharmacy have us covered when it comes to protecting us from protecting us from sun damage.

Magees have an extensive rage of sun creams to suit any budget. But how do you pick the right sun cream?

untitled (1707)LA ROCHE-POSAY are experts in skin care, highly recommended by dermatologists, they cater for all skin types and  skin conditions and their sun creams are no different.

LA ROCHE-POSAY  sun cream offers up to SPF 50+ protection for even the most sun sensitive skin and are waterproof. Their creams have broad spectrum coverage meaning the product protects against both types of rays: UVB and UVA. UVB rays burn skin, and UVA rays can cause age-related damage. Both kinds have been linked to skin cancer.

e7c33fbab77256baf4aa1975653e36abIn fact we should be wearing an SPF on our daily, sun or no sun, as it helps acts as a barrier for our skin from environmental factors which can cause damage and premature aging of the skin (let face it nobody wants that!).

When choosing a sun cream always look at the active ingredients, these are the products which are going to penetrate deep into the skin to help protect unlike other ingredients which just remain on the surface of the skin.

LA ROCHE-POSAY sun creams contain active ingredients such as Avobenzone and Zinc oxide. Avobenzone is a  common active-chemical ingredient, it penetrates the skin’s surface and helps absorb harmful UVA rays.

Zinc oxide or Titanium dioxide acts as compounds and rather than absorbing rays, they reflect them away from the skin. They’re a good choice for those with sensitive skin.

The fact that it’s also fragrance-free makes it a gentle option for those with sensitive or rosacea-affected skin, too. I love  this product’s thin, fluid texture and lightweight matte finish anyone with normal to oily skin will appreciate this .

It is definitely the best options for those who find that most SPF-rated products feel too heavy or leave their skin shiny.

nuxe-1

NUXE are the new kids on the block as regards sun screen protection-NUXE new formula not only provides the protection that you need, but is also pleasurable enough to that you’d want to keep on reapplying right through the day, which is so important for adequate sun protection.

The NUXE range is a lot smaller in comparison to other brands but this makes choosing the right product for you more simple.

There are two products that offer universal sun protection for both the body and the face: the Nuxe Sun Tanning Oil SPF10, and the Nuxe Sun Milky Spray SPF20, plus a higher level of protection for the face: the Nuxe Sun Delicious Cream for Face SPF30.

Nuxe-Sun

The Tanning Oil’s SPF of 10 is quite unique in a sun protection range, NUXE specialise in maintaining your natural tan,

NUXE claims that this lower protection product should be used only by those bronzed babes who have already tanned or dark skin, and that reapplication every two hours is essential. The prefect product for all the sun worshipers out there!

If you’re pale and interesting, this isn’t the product for you! The higher protection Milky Spray for Face and Body with its SPF of 20 is suitable for most other skin tones, as is the Delicious Cream for Face, which offers the highest protection in the range to suit delicate complexions.

Each of the products are  formulated with the same ingredients, including patented Water Hyacinth to protect the skin from dehydration, Kau Pe Flower  to relieve burning sensations, and carob seed powder, which stimulates melanogenesis and prolongs your natural tan.

The Tanning Oil,  has a lightweight, moisturising finish that isn’t quite a dry oil, but isn’t greasy either and makes your skin feel so satiny after use.

The Milky Spray,  is equally lightweight. The Delicious Cream is a little richer, offering lasting moisture and protection without leaving a chalky cast.

Sunscreen

When you finish your fun in the sun, there’s the intensely soothing Nuxe Sun Refreshing After-Sun Lotion for Face and Body to come home to. Created to replenish lost moisture and soothe overheated sensations, it really does the trick on sunburned skin and believe me I know!

During the week we had our annual school sports day, whilst I had preached to the children about the importance of wearing sun cream, I ignorantly forgot to apply any on the back of my neck- rookie mistake to say the least! Needless to say it was a scorcher of a day and my neck got burnt.

Luckily I had some of the NUXE after-sun which I applied and gave instant, long-lasting relief. Within several hours my sunburn and that red-raw pigment was non-existent.

Garnier-pack-shot-NZ-Dads

A key factor in choosing a sun cream for the face are formulas which are light and non-greasy. AMBRE SOLAIRE face protect delivers on both fronts, this is an easy- to- blend cream that won’t leave you looking ghostly either.

This moisturising cream will also hydrate without causing blemishes and is a little more affordable is you’re on a budget.

Hopefully I’ve you given some advice in helping you choose the correct sun protector for your skin.

All brand mentioned and may more are available form Magges Pharmacy  Letterkenny at the best prices. https://magees.ie/

Remember check yourself before you wreck yourself and get that sun cream on!

Have a good week guys,

Mairéad
