The Donegal Gaeltacht Riding Club has been selected by the International Affairs Committee of the Association of Irish Riding Clubs (AIRC), to represent Ireland at the Generali World Club Show Jumping Tournament in Lamotte-Beuvron in France.
This is the first time for an Irish team to compete in the competition, which is organised by the Federation Francaise d’Equitation (FFE).
While only one club from each country may compete, the competition attracts entries from all over the world and takes place in the Equestrian Park in Lamotte-Beuvron (one of the largest in Europe), from 19th – 22nd July, 2016.
The AIRC has 3500 members nationally and 130 clubs. The Donegal Gaeltacht Riding Club belongs to the West Region, which is the largest region in the country.
Club chairman, Lawrence Smyth, says that the club is honoured and excited about this great opportunity to represent Ireland.
The team travelling to France is: Mickey McHugh, Rocktown, Falcarragh, Cassandra McGee, Stranacorcra, Derrybeg, Trish Warren, Falcarragh and Dunfanaghy, John McDaid, Castlesdoe, Creeslough. These riders all competed at the National AIRC Masters’ Finals at Mullingar Equestrian Centre in March of this year.
The team flies to France on Monday 18th July, with Lawrence Smyth, as Chef d’Équippe.
